Look younger with your hair style

Ladies, feel free to put down the face creams for a quick second. We have another age-defying secret that might have you running to your hairstylist once we're finished here!

Sure – moisturizing, exfoliating, masques, toners, etc. all have the power to work wonders when it comes to turning back the clock, but they can only go so far. No matter how old you are and how much attention you've given your skin, if you have the wrong haircut, it can age you years. With that being said, having the right cut and style can erase those years significantly. Here's the scoop!

1. Bobs. This hairstyle has major benefits in regards to keeping you looking fresh-faced. The Bobs these leading ladies are rocking are edgy and sassy, and most importantly, youthful. Cuts from your shoulders up have lifting effects and work great with your bone structure, ensuring a more youthful look.

2. Layers. Face-framing layers soften up your facial features and reduce the appearance of fine lines. They also give your hair a lot of movement which subtracts the years. Jennifer Aniston is the perfect spokeswoman for layers! She has proven the "Anti-Aging Layer Theory" to be true for years and still looks unbelievably stunning! For more on layers, we have the complete "low down". Aniston included!

3. Bangs. Long and sweepy bangs can help hide Crows Feet around the eyes. The style should be long and piecey across the forehead and brush the outer corners of the eyes, which can mask the wrinkles. Also, eyebrow skimming bangs mask forehead wrinkles and play up the eyes.

bangs

Reese opts for the eyebrow skimming bangs to hide forehead wrinkles, while Rebecca Romijn goes for the sweepy bang to mask Crow's Feet.

4. Highlights. Warm highlights around the face bring out the radiance of your skin tone and make it glow. It creates luminosity and gives off the illusion of lift. However, be cautious of the contrast between your skin and hair color. If your hair color is too dark, it can accentuate every line and wrinkle. If your hair color is too light and ashy, it can wash you out, aging you even more. A good warm/caramely hue will brighten up your appearance, and mask any damage that time has done on your locks.

hair highlights

Cameron Diaz and Julia Roberts look radiant with warm, golden highlights.

5. Loose updos. Need a chic updo for a work event or night out on the town? Might want to skip out on the slicked-back, polished look and trade it in for a loose, messy updo. Slicking all of your hair back is a harsh option if you're trying to disguise the fine lines. It puts all of your wrinkles on full display. Instead, let the strands hang down and try a loose, piecey updo for a sexy and more relaxed look. It makes you appear much younger! (To take your updo to the next level, we've got the best earring choices to compliment them!)

Heidi Klum hair

Hair Icon, Heidi Klum is proof that a more relaxed updo can make the years dissapear!

6. Shine. Shiny locks make your hair look nourished and healthy, making YOU look youthful. As we age, our hair loses its lustre. But worry not! You can easily wake your tired strands from hibernation with a great shining serum. We love the Satin Polishing Milk from Shu Uemura! It envelopes your hair in a gorgeous, satiny shine while simultaneously protecting it from heat damage.

Shu Ueumura

7. Soft curls. Similar to layers, the softness of curls can even out the appearance of lines or wrinkles on the face. It also gives your hair a natural, youthful bounce and movement. Take cue from Julianne Moore, who could very easily be mistaken for Lindsay Lohan (circa 2004) in this picture. That's over half her age, you guys! Not to mention her warm hair color compliments her skin perfectly, which shaves more years off. Need we say "Moore"?

With these tips, you now have even more ammo in your arsenal to combat aging! Now what are you waiting for?! CHOP to it!

Make up Mistakes can damage your skin

Courtesy Stacy Pollak

Do the wrinkles on your face scream, "LOOK AT ME!" after your standard makeup application? Rather than chalking it up to age, the main thing to consider are your makeup choices. Just like hairstyles, makeup techniques can add or subtract years to your appearance.

Prepare to hop aboard your own personal time machine with these makeup do's and don'ts. Destination? 10 years younger.

1. Don't skip or cake on foundation. Skipping out on foundation in your daily makeup routine can have harsh effects. Foundation helps even out your skin tone, whereas going sans coverage can put all of your skin's flaws in the spotlight. A sheer, translucent foundation corrects the flaws and helps liven up the skin for a youthful, even tone. If you have oily skin, shoot for a mineral powder. For dry skin, tinted moisturizers are the best way to go. Another thing that can put creases & wrinkles on full display? TOO MUCH foundation. Heavy makeup is a one-way ticket to Ageville; it makes you appear older than you are.

Heidi Klum loves shiny things, but her face shouldn't be one of them! Going too natural and skipping foundation can be a harsh option.

2. Using too light of a base. Foundation that's lighter than your skin tone will only exaggerate wrinkles and fine lines. Try a hue that's 1-2 shades darker with a hint of shimmer. It will give your skin a fresh glow.

the right foundation color

Try the foundation stripe test with 3 hues to see which looks best! Can you guess which shade works best for this model?

3. Applying blush incorrectly. Blush applied to the apples of the cheeks can draw attention to cheek wrinkles and sagging skin under the eyes. Apply color on the highest point of the cheekbone and brush upward. A rose-tinted shade of blush works great for all skin tones and ages, but don't over-do it! Heavy color on the cheeks gives off a severe, clownish appearance. A general rule of thumb with makeup: Too much = AGING.

Xtina commits makeup suicide with numerous mishaps – the most noticeable being too much blush. The end result is clownish and severely unflattering.

4. Metallic eyeshadow. Frosty-colored eyeshadows magnify creased eyelids and wrinkles. Instead, try a matte or solid color in peach or taupe which work great on all skin tones. For more advice on your best makeup, check out our post on The Best Makeup For Your Hair Color!

J-Lo's metallic eyeshadow is definitely costing a thing: her age!

5. Mascara & eyeliner on lower lashes. Applying mascara and eyeliner to your lower lashes highlights two of the things you want to hide most: Crow's Feet and dark circles. Plus, it makes your eyes looks smaller. For big, bright eyes – coat your top lashes with the blackest mascara to make the whites of your eyes look bright and clear. Also be sure to curl your lashes to make them look fuller – which of course means YOUNGER!

too much eye makeup

Sigh…a classic case of bad makeup happening to good people! We love Emma Stone, but her clumpy lower lash look highlights every wrinkle.

6. Bright lip colors. As you know, our lip fullness deflates with age. Bright, dark, or iridescent shades can be too heavy for thinning lips – allowing the color to bleed from the natural lip line. Bright hues can also be aging in general due to the severity and heaviness of the color. A neutral rose shade is very flattering, and a sheer gloss to top it off adds fullness.

How to walk elegantly with long Heels

Courtesy Stylish Guide

Two common questions I get is "How do you walk in heels all the time?!" and "Do you have any tips for wearing high heel shoes?" I've been writing back individually but thought since it was such a common question that I'd just write a post for it!  These tips aren't ground breaking or anything, I'm sure you can find tips if you google for it as well, but here's just some tips of how I manage to walk in heels all day long.
Practice makes perfect
I've been wearing heels since I was a teenager so my feet have been thoroughly trained to be in heels.  In fact, they are so used to being in heels that when I wear flats, I am clumsier and tend to fall over my feet or hurt myself.  I also get foot cramps when I wear flats.  Odd but true!  If you are just starting out, don't immediately go for the stilletos.  Get some heels between 2-3 inches and preferably with a bit of a thicker heel and wear them around the house. (these would be great)  Wear them when you are cooking, wear them when you are doing your makeup, when you are vacuuming, walk up and down the stairs, etc...  You don't need to even get dressed up, just walk around and wear them in your sweats, nobody will see you but if you wear them during normal activities without leaving the house, you will get a lot more used to them and not feel foolish because nobody will see you practicing.  I do this when I'm breaking my shoes in and it helps a lot in that aspect as well.

Does it fit?
Nothing looks worse than a girl who's wearing shoes that are too big or too small and you can see them visibly struggling to walk in them.  I wear different sizes with different brands and even within the same designer I can go up or down a half size so make sure that you are wearing the size that fits your foot and not just the size that you "usually" wear.  To help with sizing you can also get insoles.  I really like these Dr. Scholl's For Her Open Shoe Insoles or if you don't want the whole insole I also recommend the Foot Petals Tip Toes.  I buy these in bulk and put them in so many of my shoes.  They make my foot stay in place and not slip to the front like so many super high heels can make your foot do.  It also makes the front pad of the shoe much cushier and comfortable to walk in.  You can also buy the variety pack that will cover each part of the shoe that you may be affected by.

When you are buying shoes, walk around the shoe department in them and make sure that your heel doesn't pop out or it's not squeezing your toes or the sides of your feet.  All of that will stay the same once you buy them and take them home.  Don't think that shoes will stretch because most of the time they won't stretch enough and they'll still be too tight to wear.  Nobody likes to wear too tight shoes.  Well, I sure don't and I think most people wouldn't either.  If they are a bit loose and the half size down is too small, ask the sales associate if you can see how it fits with an insole or a foot pad.  Most often they will have temporary foot pads that you can put in your shoe to see if it will help.  I know for sure Nordstrom has them and will put a few in your shoe box for free!  They aren't as good as foot petals but good for a temporary fix.

Walk slowly and take small steps
I admit, I'm a fast walker but like I said I am pretty experienced with heels so I'm so used to walking in heels.  However when I wear super high 5 inch heels like my Louboutin Bianca pumps, I have to walk pretty slowly.  I always warn my husband that I will be especially slow on the days that I wear them.  There's just no getting around it.  Walking slow is much better than trying to keep your normal pace and then falling on your face.  Don't feel silly for walking slow or taking small steps.  I mean don't walk abnormally slow (if you do, you may need more practice) but look around you, there's always a ton of people walking slow and you probably don't stare at them weird or anything do you?  So ignore your own self conscious feeling of "dang people are probably staring at me because I'm so slow" and just take your time walking.  If you have to go up or down stairs, always hold on to the handrail or your significant other to keep steady.  It sounds silly but I've seen people take tumbles because they didn't have anything to hold onto but if you are wearing heels, you have a higher chance of slipping or getting your footing wrong when going down stairs.  I've taken a few tumbles myself that the handrail has helped me from making into an embarrassing situation!

Always carry flats with you
When I know I'll be walking a lot, I always carry a bigger handbag and put a pair of flats in there.  I have a ton of shoe bags from all my shoes so I just put a pair of flats in a shoe bag to keep my handbag contents from getting dirty.  Then when I've been on my feet for a couple of hours and I need to give them a rest, I'll just slip on my flats, put my heels in the shoe bag and my feet are back to being comfy! There are even flats out there like these Dr. Scholl's Fast Flats that are foldable flats and are really compact to keep in your handbag.  I haven't tried them just yet but seems like a good concept.

Keep blisters away!
People always wonder if I get blisters from walking in heels all day long but I never do.  Ever since I started investing in high end shoes, I have never gotten a blister from a shoe.  I think it's the way the shoe is made and the materials inside the shoe.  For cheaper shoes, you may get synthetic materials inside the shoe which after your foot has rubbed up against it for an hour or two, it just can't be comfortable.  Whereas for designer shoes, the entire insole as well as the inner lining is made from genuine leather which is softer to your feet and molds better than the synthetic materials.  If you are getting blisters from the inside of your shoes, put your shoes on and note where you think they might start rubbing and stick little bandaids there or you can also get some moleskin padding as well if you want to cut out custom sizes.

That's it for my tips!  The only thing that I want to reiterate is to practice and practice some more!  That's the only way that your feet will get used to being at a strange angle for long periods of time.  If you practice enough you might end up like me and have to train your feet to wear flats :)

My next guide will be on how to take care of your designer heels as that's another question I get a lot!  And now, a few of my picks from the spring collection of my favorite shoe designers.

If you are a beginner, I advise I against these ones!  The heel height plus the small toe box makes for only experienced stilletto wearers.  Aren't they amazing though?!
With the thicker heel, these are great for the super high heel look but a bit more on the comfortable side.  I've actually tried these on and can vouch for their comfort!
The strap in front like these helps to keep your foot in and more stable.  I actually just bought these the other day!  Adore them but they are very high so not for the beginners either!
And having a platform in front is definitely helpful with balancing out the high heels.  I love these sandals, they just scream "springtime!" to me!

Hope my tips helped and next thing you know you'll be dancing the night away in your 4 inch heels without wanting to kick them off and throwing them in the trash!

Most popular Nail color trends of 2012

By Irum sadiq

While the prospect of cold weather and cloudy skies has me cringing, the new polish trends poking their way onto runways and beauty lines for the 2012 fall season have me giddy for the months ahead.  Scarves and bags are great, but these lust-worthy lacquers are sure to make your nails your favorite accessory this fall.  Colors reminiscent of black magic, forbidden romance, deep neutrals, iconic artwork, and textured prints are all the buzz.  So whether you're preparing for tailgating, homecoming, pumpkin picking, or just another day at the office, these haute polish trends will guarantee that your style is still steamy hot- even if the weather no longer is.

 Dark and Mysterious

This season's trend takes feminine colors, like purple and red, and spins them into something alluringly dark.  Relying on deeper, darker hues, metallic undertones, and chunky sparkle, these fall shades are sultry and feminine, laced with all the intrigue of something forbidden. To pull off this look, browse for darker-than-usual berry shades and edgy metallics.  In order to keep nails from looking too sinister, keep them manicured to a shorter length, with square tips and rounded off corners.

Striking Neutrals

Not huge on color, but want to it up a little more than everyday taupe or nude?  This season is bringing back neutrals, but with a richer, cozier feel.  Great for pairing with a comfy fall sweater or chic ballet flats, these hues' trendy shades draw just the right amount of attention to your nails.  To pull off the look, search for deep shades of traditional neutral colors, and shimmery shades of cocoa brown and concrete gray.  Prevent your polish from looking too summery by keeping nudes at least a shade darker than your skin, and shimmer to only stronger colors.

Ombre

This season's ombre trend is leaving no beauty territory untouched.  Hair, lips, eyes… and nails!  Pick up your favorite polish (we think it looks best with conspicuous colors like midnight blue, jade green, or one of fall's new bold berry hues), look for a few polishes similar, but a few shades lighter, and blend away!  Whether you create your color transition from the bed of the nail to the tip, or from the thumb to the pinky nail, ombre is all the rage, and is sure to make any nails look avant garde and uber-glam.

'Love affair and frustration' the main theme of 'Talash'

Review  :
8:49 AM, DECEMBER 01, 2012
Image Title

Talaash
Direction: Reema Kagti
Actors: Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherji
Rating: ***

To watch Talaash is to embark on a passionate love affair that ends in frustration because the object of your desire reveals itself to be shallow and depressingly ordinary. In short, a profound anti-climax.

If I sound like a woman cheated, it's only because I was so invested in Reema Kagti's suspense drama. The film has one of the most terrific first hours I've seen this year. It's taut, twisty and absolutely thrilling. Reema creates a wonderfully textured and atmospheric portrait of Mumbai, where neon lights and garish make-up just barely disguise the hollowness within. And the story, co-written by Reema and Zoya Akhtar had me hooked from the first frame.

A famous actor drives his expensive car into the Arabian Sea. Inspector Shekhawat is called in to investigate. The tough-talking cop, played by Aamir Khan, is actually a walking wound. His son died in a tragic accident and Shekhawat blames himself for it. He is haunted by his actions - the things he did and, more painfully, the things he didn't do. His wife, Roshni, played by Rani Mukherji, finds solace in secret conversations with her dead son through a medium.

Shekhawat immerses himself in the case of the drowned actor. But just when it seems like they've reached a dead end, a tantalisingly seductive prostitute named Rosie, played by Kareena Kapoor, provides a clue. She continues to help and their relationship becomes more entangled. At one point, Rosie looks at the cop and says: 'Pyaar ho gaya kya mujhse, saheb?'

Talaash had me in a vice-like grip till the interval. And then, the curse of the second-half struck like lightning. The explanation of the deliciously intriguing mystery was so lame that I refused to believe it. I hoped that Reema and Zoya would spring one final twist on us and redeem the film. But sadly, that never happened.

Still, there are so many things to admire in Talaash. Reema and Zoya have written layered characters and all three lead actors are first-rate. Aamir, Rani and Kareena work beautifully off each other. Each one creates such a palpable sense of ache and damage.

The dialogue by Farhan Akhtar, with additional work by Anurag Kashyap, is perfectly pitched. Ram Sampath's mournful music underlines the melancholy. And the strange fascination that the cop develops for the prostitute is mesmerising.

I enjoyed these characters so much that I demand another film for Shekhawat, Roshni and Rosie. This one didn't serve them well enough.

For once, I also feel the need to explain my rating: I wanted to give four stars to the first half and two stars to the second half, so it averages out to three. See Talaash and do post comments. I'm curious to see how many were as furious as me.

Draw your own lines with the New Liquid Liners

Pretty, Please! Liquid Liner Pens

I am the queen of the splotch. Whenever I attempt to draw a circle, a straight line, adorable puppy, or a postmodern interpretation of Guernica, it pretty much comes out looking like… a splotch. That's because I am completely, totally, unforgivably untalented in the art department. This means that my liquid liner skills have always been subpar at best.

But no more! Finally, makeup companies decided that even those of us who are artistically incompetent deserved to wear smokin' hot liquid liner, so they put it in an idiotproof pen.

How did a concept so simple take so long to arrive? The new crop of liner pens have felt tips and clean fluid liner that applies easily and dries quickly. No painting, no dipping, no gunked-up brushes. They're so simple to use that I've decided to venture past the traditional cat-eye liner look into navy, green, and glitter versions. It's a brave new splotch-free world.

How to straighten your hair with a flat iron ?

Hello, I'm Aubrey Loots, co-owner of Studio DNA Salon in Los Angeles. Today, we are actually going to show you how to create curl with a flat iron. Whoever thought you can create curl with a flat iron. Most people use the flat iron to straighten their hair. Again, we're gonna show you some tricks and that theory has continue and this is one of them.
 Flat Iron

What you wanna do is to use a flat iron. Again, bind the hair between 300 and 350, no more than 400 and if you have courser hair, you can go from 400 to 450 degrees. You wanna section your hair a little differently than using the flat iron traditionally. Usually, I'm gonna turn my model's head. When we flat iron, we work in section going straight down. When you wanna create curl with a flat iron, we're gonna work vertically. So I'm gonna start by sectioning all the hair which I encourage you to do at home so you have a nice clean work area. Again, we're gonna use a light hairspray, perhaps a little bit more than you would when you're using your flat iron to get a straight look because you want your curl to hold a little bit. Use your comb at your section and we're gonna take our flat iron and you're gonna put it in vertically. You're gonna turn it around, take the loose end. Keep moving as you're going. You spin it around and you prop it into your hand and walah. The magic of a tool. You don't have to run out and buy a bunch of tools. You can use the flat iron for straight or curly hair.

I'm gonna take another section just to demonstrate for you again. Take a vertically sectioned, put on your hairspray. Like I said, a little bit more to make sure that your curl have hold. Comb that product through. I like having all my products through. It's guaranteed that way that it covers the whole entire area. Take your flat iron vertically. Twist it as you're going around. Keep moving and then you grab it into your hand and then we have another soft wave. You can keep going all around the head. I'm gonna take one more section a little bit higher and we'll clip it out of the way. Comb it through, add your hairspray. Comb that through and start twisting. Pull that through. Look at that beautiful curl. So easy. And once you got your curl in, you can take your fingers and just gently open it up. This will create a nice texture. This is such a great technique especially for people with finer hair who have a hard time having any body in their hair. Just take flat iron to create some curls. So there, we have it. A quick and easy way to get some body and bounce in to your hair with a flat iron and she's ready to go for her party.
