Feared plane hijack in Holland turns out to be miscommunication

schiphol amsterdam airport
FIGHTER jets were scrambled today after a miscommunication between a pilot and air traffic control led to fears a plane heading to Amsterdam had been hijacked.

The passenger aircraft landed at Schiphol Airport Holland's busiest airport after the alert was raised.

Dramatic images from Dutch reports show an F-16 fighter jet flying close to the plane before it landed.

After the plane landed all passengers were kept on board and the plane were surrounded by security forces.

A spokesperson for Spain's Vueling airline said reports that the plane had been hijacked were incorrect.

After searching the plane Dutch police later confirmed it had not been hijacked.
