Draw your own lines with the New Liquid Liners

Pretty, Please! Liquid Liner Pens

I am the queen of the splotch. Whenever I attempt to draw a circle, a straight line, adorable puppy, or a postmodern interpretation of Guernica, it pretty much comes out looking like… a splotch. That's because I am completely, totally, unforgivably untalented in the art department. This means that my liquid liner skills have always been subpar at best.

But no more! Finally, makeup companies decided that even those of us who are artistically incompetent deserved to wear smokin' hot liquid liner, so they put it in an idiotproof pen.

How did a concept so simple take so long to arrive? The new crop of liner pens have felt tips and clean fluid liner that applies easily and dries quickly. No painting, no dipping, no gunked-up brushes. They're so simple to use that I've decided to venture past the traditional cat-eye liner look into navy, green, and glitter versions. It's a brave new splotch-free world.

How to straighten your hair with a flat iron ?

Hello, I'm Aubrey Loots, co-owner of Studio DNA Salon in Los Angeles. Today, we are actually going to show you how to create curl with a flat iron. Whoever thought you can create curl with a flat iron. Most people use the flat iron to straighten their hair. Again, we're gonna show you some tricks and that theory has continue and this is one of them.
 Flat Iron

What you wanna do is to use a flat iron. Again, bind the hair between 300 and 350, no more than 400 and if you have courser hair, you can go from 400 to 450 degrees. You wanna section your hair a little differently than using the flat iron traditionally. Usually, I'm gonna turn my model's head. When we flat iron, we work in section going straight down. When you wanna create curl with a flat iron, we're gonna work vertically. So I'm gonna start by sectioning all the hair which I encourage you to do at home so you have a nice clean work area. Again, we're gonna use a light hairspray, perhaps a little bit more than you would when you're using your flat iron to get a straight look because you want your curl to hold a little bit. Use your comb at your section and we're gonna take our flat iron and you're gonna put it in vertically. You're gonna turn it around, take the loose end. Keep moving as you're going. You spin it around and you prop it into your hand and walah. The magic of a tool. You don't have to run out and buy a bunch of tools. You can use the flat iron for straight or curly hair.

I'm gonna take another section just to demonstrate for you again. Take a vertically sectioned, put on your hairspray. Like I said, a little bit more to make sure that your curl have hold. Comb that product through. I like having all my products through. It's guaranteed that way that it covers the whole entire area. Take your flat iron vertically. Twist it as you're going around. Keep moving and then you grab it into your hand and then we have another soft wave. You can keep going all around the head. I'm gonna take one more section a little bit higher and we'll clip it out of the way. Comb it through, add your hairspray. Comb that through and start twisting. Pull that through. Look at that beautiful curl. So easy. And once you got your curl in, you can take your fingers and just gently open it up. This will create a nice texture. This is such a great technique especially for people with finer hair who have a hard time having any body in their hair. Just take flat iron to create some curls. So there, we have it. A quick and easy way to get some body and bounce in to your hair with a flat iron and she's ready to go for her party.

Personal Quotes

You ain't ever gonna get an Academy Award for doing Crank (2006) and you certainly won't for doing all the other movies I've done.

[on being directed by Sylvester Stallone in The Expendables (2010)] He is someone that you have to respect and with that he runs a very relaxed set.

[on preparing for action roles] I go to this gym full of stunt men. There aren't any TVs or treadmills there. This is a spit-and-sawdust kind of place. It has a lot of great training aids - trampolines and bags and every weapon ever invented to do harm to a human being. If you want to know how to throw a knife it's great.

Growing up where I did, you met a lot of colorful characters whose business was on the other side of the law, or more likely you didn't know what they were up to, and you never would. So playing those kinds of characters now, I can draw on that. The rest of it, you can practice or learn from books. But mostly, I draw from my experiences. That's all I have, you know.

You see a lot of action films, and it's almost (like) you can't tell who's doing what. It's chopped up so much, you just see a fist, a leg - it's all driven by the sound, boom, pow, boom. You wouldn't know what was happening otherwise. The people who inspired me growing up, Bruce Lee,Jackie Chan, that's the real deal. You see them, the camera's way back, there aren't a lot of cuts - you feel like you're really in there. Today, there's so much technology and green-screen and CGI, you can turn your grandma into an action star. But people are getting wise to that, I think. There's no substitute for the real thing.

[on performing in action movies] I've spent all those years learning how to do certain skills, and then that competitive spirit kicks in and you want to do the stunts. Basically, it's the the male competitive ego at work.

Hair color for this winter

Renowned stylist Eva Scrivo shakes up old beauty rules and helps you find the best, rich hair color for this season.

Courtesy of L'Oréal Professionnel
winter hair

So you went light when you were feeling bright and cheery this summer (nothing says "summer" like sunkissed, Jennifer Aniston-esque highlights). Now the cozy, cooler season is upon us, do you have to go back to the dark side?

We spoke to Eva Scrivo of the Eva Scrivo Salon in New York City to put the winter color questions to rest.

Ques: If you love your beachy, summer highlights, what's the best way to tweak them in the winter?

Eva Scrivo: There are several ways you can maintain a bright blonde that still feels winter appropriate. For example, adding and integrating a few lowlights next to some very bright pieces and warming the hair with an overall glaze, brings some continuity to the overall hair from top to bottom, making it feel more season appropriate.

Ques: What's a lowlight again?

Eva Scrivo: The lowlight is often just a warmer version of your own natural color. Basically, your natural hair color, but enhanced. By looking at one's base color you can formulate the lowlights...That's how you customize a color for each client. There might be specific trends that are universal but the way that we customize and individualize the color for each client makes it especially flattering to her skintone.

Ques: What would you tell women who thinks they "should" go dark in the winter?

Eva Scrivo: People do ask to go darker, but the change doesn't have to be so drastic. As long as there's depth around the face and the base color, the overall tone of the hair looks darker and richer. Sometimes, it's just about adding back some dimension that gets lost in the summer months from exposure to the elements.

You have to keep things in balance, and not just go darker because it's winter and you think you have to. Sometimes it's not about going darker, but about going richer and shinier. You don't have to go as dark as one might think. It's about doing what works for you and making it season appropriate—but not feeling you have to go darker if you want to stay light.

How can i make my face look beautiful

While you may spend hours scouring beauty counters searching for miracle concoctions to help you look more attractive, what others inherently find beautiful about your face may actually be based more on proportions than potions. What are some of these markers of beauty? And more importantly, why do we find them to be beautiful? “All of these questions are linked to evolution,” says Dr. Pamela Pallett, a researcher at Dartmouth University. “You want to have a healthy mate because that person likely has good genetics, and the faces we perceive as beautiful can signify good genetics.” So, to some degree, we are programmed to be more attracted to certain faces over others. Sexual dimorphism, a fancy term for sex-specific traits, is one of the major factors in determining what we find beautiful. The more feminine a woman’s features are, the more attractive she’s perceived to be. “For women, things like large eyes, a small nose and fuller lips are generally found to be more attractive since they are considered to enhance facial femininity,” says Dr. Viren Swami, a Reader in Psychology at the University of Westminster, co-author of “The Psychology of Physical Attraction,” and YouBeauty Attraction Expert. One study zeroes in further and notes that a bigger forehead and smaller-than-average chin and nose are found to be more desirable in a woman. The reasoning? Researchers believe that we’ve evolved to consider female-specific traits as markers of a high estrogen-to-testosterone ratio. This implies high fertility— in the end, it’s all about making healthy babies. But just because you don’t look like Megan Fox doesn’t mean you’re out of luck. It’s important to note that it’s less about your specific features than it is about the overall face, says Dr. Swami. In other words, as long as your features collectively feminize your face (even if you have a larger nose or thinner lips, for instance), you’re still considered pretty. “If high cheekbones contribute to greater femininity, then the total look would be perceived to be attractive,” he explains. “Not necessarily just the high cheekbones on their own.” While we’re talking cheeks, you’d be surprised to know that not all model-skinny or angular faces are considered ideal. A St. Andrews University study shows that facial adiposity, or the perception of weight in the face, was actually rated as more attractive to men. From an evolutionary standpoint, fuller faces indicate agreeable cardiovascular health and immunity to other infections. Good health equals healthy babies, right? At least that may have been our ancestors’ (unconscious) reasoning.

Beauty Tips : Women to look prettier

BEAUTY TIPS TO KNOW! BANGS. Some girls grow bangs to cover up acne, while this is a good way to do it, be careful becausethe oils from your hair can also make your skin worse. COLOR. Before using eye shadow, know what colors are right for you! Green eyes: Brown or green but never blue. Brown eyes: anything, but stay clear of blue. Blue eyes: blues, grays, silvers. EYE SHADOW? Once you know the color then you need to apply it right! Use a soft, small brush and apply it evenly! NO EYE SHODOW. You can still accentuate your eyes with eyeliner, which is harder to apply but does the trick. It comes in all shades. LIPSTICK?! Star with lip gloss and work your way up from there. Practice makes perfect. BLACK MASCARA. You can also use clear mascara, blue or brown. Black can be a bit harsh if your eyelashes are light.

Jill Kelley :

Gilberte "Jill" Khawam Kelley (born January 1, 1975) is an American socialite and volunteer social liaison to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa Bay, Florida. She is a key figure in the government investigation into inappropriate communications by U.S. Generals David Petraeus and John R. Allen.
Jill Kelley

Kelley's family are Lebanese-American Maronite Catholics who immigrated from Jounieh, Lebanon, in the mid-1970s. She grew up in Northeast Philadelphia, and her parents owned a restaurant. She attended Allegheny University of the Health Sciences in the late 1990s, where she was undergraduate class representative. Kelley lived in the area until her mid-20s. She has an identical twin sister named Natalie.

Kelley was given an appreciation certificate recognizing her as an "honorary ambassador" to the coalition of countries at United States Central Command in Florida, but she has no official status and is not employed by the U.S. government. An official told the Associated Press that Kelley sometimes omits the term "honorary" and refers to herself as an ambassador.

Her Personal Life :

She is married to cancer surgeon Scott Kelley and has three daughters. They live in Tampa, Florida near United States Central Command headquarters and have frequently hosted glitzy parties for the area's military brass. According to the Washington Post, the Kelleys have been pursued by creditors since 2002 for failures to make payments.

In May 2012 Ms. Kelley complained to an FBI investigator of being sent harassing emails by an anonymous woman. This set off a chain of events that eventually led to the resignation of the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, David Petraeus on November 9, 2012. The anonymous woman was identified as Paula Broadwell, who investigators discovered had been having an affair with Petraeus. On November 13, 2012 Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said that the nomination of Petraeus' successor as top commander in Afghanistan, General John R. Allen, for the post of Supreme Allied Commander Europe would be delayed. News agencies said Allen was being investigated for "inappropriate communication" with Kelley.

Gen R. Allen

Gen R. Allen :

John R. Allen (born December 15, 1953) is a United States Marine Corps four-star general. On July 18, 2011, Allen assumed command of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) as Commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A), succeeding Army General David Petraeus. He has been nominated to be NATO's Supreme Allied Commander, Europe from early 2013, pending confirmation by the United States Senate. On November 13, 2012 Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said that Allen's nomination for SACEUR would be delayed. News agencies reported that Allen's communications with Jill Kelley, a Tampa woman who was friends with Allen's predecessor as top commander in Afghanistan, David Petraeus, were under investigation.

The US commander in Afghanistan, General John Allen, is under investigation for "inappropriate"
emails to a woman linked to the sex scandal involving former CIA director David Petraeus, a defence official has said.

The revelation on Tuesday represented yet another stunning turn in a widening scandal that has jolted Washington only days after the re-election of President Barack Obama, with legislators vowing to get to the bottom of the case.

The Pentagon official told reporters the FBI had uncovered a trove of 30,000 pages of correspondence, mostly emails, between Allen and Jill Kelley, a key figure in the scandal that brought down the CIA chief.

Kelley is said to have received threatening emails from Paula Broadwell, who is Petraeus' biographer and who had an extramarital affair with Petraeus that reportedly began after he became CIA director in September 2011.

Holly Petraeus ( Mrs. Petraeus )

Holly Petraeus :

Wife of Gen. David Petraeus, Holly Petraeus, 'furious' over Paula Broadwell affair, friend says on 'Good Morning America'
As Holly Petraeus was stewing over the bedsheets betrayal, the other two female figures in the scandal hired high-profile lawyers.

FBI Agent :

David Petraeus’ stunning downfall took another salacious turn Monday as it was revealed the FBI agent who began investigating the disgraced spy chief allegedly sent shirtless photos of himself to the woman who sparked the probe. ( Paula Broadwell )
The unnamed agent was a friend of Jill Kelley, the raven-haired knockout whom Petraeus biographer Paula Broadwell jealously suspected of having the hots for the former CIA director, The Wall Street Journal reported.

WASHINGTON: CIA Director David Petraeus resigned as head of the leading US spy agency on Friday, saying he had engaged in an extramarital affair and acknowledging he “showed extremely poor judgment.”
In a letter to the CIA workforce, Petraeus, 60, said he met with President Barack Obama at the White House on Thursday and asked “to be allowed, for personal reasons, to resign from my position.”
“After being married for 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair,” he wrote. “Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours.”
Obama, who was re-elected to a second term on Tuesday, said in a statement he had accepted Petraeus’ resignation, praising him for his work at the CIA and for leading U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Much about the sudden and dramatic turn of events remained unknown Friday evening, including how long the affair had gone on and what prompted Petraeus to resign now, just days after the 2012 presidential election.

There were indications, however, that the affair was first uncovered a few months ago during an investigation by the FBI.
A US national security source said the FBI had stumbled across evidence of Petraeus’ affair during an apparently unrelated investigation of news leaks.
Petraeus’ revelation of the affair appeared to end the public career of a widely admired warrior-scholar who played a key role in the Iraq war, led the US Central Command and commanded U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan.
Petraeus’ name had circulated speculatively as a possible Republican presidential nominee before Obama tapped him as CIA chief. Before taking the CIA post, he retired as an Army general after nearly four decades of military service.
There is no indication Petraeus broke any agency rule in connection with his admitted affair, sources familiar with the matter said.
The CIA has no broad rule banning officials from engaging in extramarital affairs though, if discovered, liaisons by CIA personnel with suspected foreign agents would pose security problems for a US agent.

PSY is awarded the highest Korean cultural Award

PYS - Park Jae-Sang
SEOUL (AFP) - South Korea has awarded one of its highest cultural honours to the rapper Psy for taking the world by storm with his “Gangnam Style” hit.
The culture ministry announced Tuesday that the 34-year-old singer, whose real name is Park Jae-Sang, would receive the Okgwan Order of Cultural Merit, awarded for “outstanding meritorious services” to the arts.
“Psy has been chosen to be decorated for not only being a long-term artist, but also for advertising Gangnam widely and increasing the world’s interest in Korea,” a culture ministry official told AFP.
Psy has rocketed to international fame since his “Gangnam Style” video - in which he performs his now famous horse-riding dance - went viral after being posted on YouTube in July.
“Gangnam Style”, which is a tribute to an upmarket neighbourhood in Seoul, has since racked up more than 654 million views, making it the second most-watched YouTube video of all time, behind Canadian teenage heartthrob Justin Bieber’s “Baby”, on 796 million.
The song has topped charts from Britain to Australia, and has occupied the number two slot on the US Billboard Hot 100 for six straight weeks.
South Korea sees popular culture as a potent export force providing international exposure for a country that still feels overlooked in comparison to neighbours China and Japan.
The government has spent substantial time and money supporting the so-called Hallyu (Korean Wave) of TV shows and pop music that has swept across Asia in the past decade.
Film director Kim Ki-Duk, who won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival this year with his movie Pieta, will receive the Eungwan Order of Cultural Merit - which ranks higher than Psy’s medal.

INSTAGRAM Gets facebook feel with online profiles

SAN FRANCISCO: Picture sharing website Instagram on Monday began rolling out online profiles that let people showcase themselves and photos they've taken with the Facebook-owned smartphone application.
The creation of an online home for Instagram images put a Facebook spin on the startup that the world’s leading social network bought this year.
“Instagram web profiles are a beautiful new way to view and share Instagram on the web,” said a message at the company’s website.
“Your web profile features your photos along with your profile photo and bio, giving others a look at the content you share on Instagram.”
People can share their profiles with whomever they wish as well as “follow”other Instagram users, commenting on or expressing “likes” for pictures.
Instagram was in the limelight last week as a key source for pictures showing the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
Photos of the storm were popping up on many social networks including Twitter and Google+, but Instagram data showed at least 521,000 photos with the hashtag #Sandy. Another 306,000 were tagged #hurricaneSandy.
Facebook completed its acquisition of Instagram in September. The original price was pegged at $1 billion but the final value was less because of the decline in Facebook’s share price.
The main point of Instagram is to share smartphone snaps, which can be enhanced with image filters to mimic historic types of film.

Apple sold three million iPads in the first three days of its launch

AN FRANCISCO: Apple said Monday it sold three million iPads in the first three days of its launch of the iPad mini and fourth-generation model of its original format iPad.
Apple CEO Tim Cook
The tech giant said demand for iPad mini “exceeded the initial supply,” meaning some orders will be delayed until later this month.
Apple did not break down precise sales of the mini, the 7.9-inch (20 centimeter) tablet which joins several other small-format tablets, and the new iPad, which has a 10-inch (25 centimeter) screen.
“Customers around the world love the new iPad mini and fourth-generation iPad,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, in a statement.
“We set a new launch weekend record and practically sold out of iPad minis.
We’re working hard to build more quickly to meet the incredible demand.”Both iPad mini and the new fourth generation iPad were launched Friday in 34 countries.
The iPad mini weighs 0.68 pounds, 53 per cent lighter than Apple’s third generation iPad. It is 7.2 millimeters (0.28 inches) thick, 23 per cent thinner than the original iPad and thinner than a pencil.
The iPad mini with Wi-Fi connectivity and 16 gigabytes of memory costs $329, the 32GB model sells for $429 and the 64GB version for $529. It is more expensive than rivals from Google, Amazon and other makers.
Apple’s senior vice president for marketing Phil Schiller helped unveil the iPad mini, insisting that it was an entirely new design and not “just a shrunken down iPad”.
Like later versions of the original iPad, the new Apple tablet features rear- and front-facing cameras, and also has stereo speakers.
