New York Spring R.T.W. 2013
Fashion market director Michael Carl and the rest of the Vanity Fair style team outline their favorite moments—from the hair to the dresses and the accessories—from New York's spring 2013 RTW collections.
In Francisco Costa's fierce spring/summer '13 collection, this black-and-white "lace" look was a standout for all.
For the editors on the run, Donna Karan and Karlie Kloss provided a little fashion fuel at the DKNY show. Each Perfect 10 cookie, in partnership with FEED, will provide to hungry children around the world. They are gluten- and dairy-free. These cookies are NOT bagels. Not only is Karlie Kloss a top model (and a co-captain of Michael Carl's fantasy football team) but now she's helping to feed the world one cookie at a time. P.S. Karlie, we are starting Ray Rice this week.
I know it's been asked and the answer is: yes, she is a designer, and a damn good one. While we covet the whole collection, we fell in love with this A-line skirt and cropped jacket.
Do you think these two like each other? Husband-and-wife team Victor and Sarah Lytvinenko have brought their North Carolina charm to the big city. But never fear, it's not just denim, kids. Check out their new New York store, which opened this month.
During a long week of ready-to-wear, shoes, and bags, we always welcome a jewelry presentation with open arms. Monique Pean's newest collection, called K'atun, showcased some of her most refined work to date. But it was this standout necklace that stole the show. Fuchsia tourmaline, jasper, and citrine—need we say more?
Strap-happy heels by Alejandro Ingelmo—perfection!
Joseph Altuzarra departs from his signature tailoring this season with this draped "Scheherazade chic" look that is as sexy as he is.
In what was by far one of our favorite shows of the season, Narciso Rodriguez presented a dynamic collection with effortless, sexy silhouettes and tonal vitality. His bias-cut chemise garments and the architectural elements of his tailoring are a true testament to his skill and craftsmanship.
J.Press York Street debuted its spring/summer 2013 collection this past week, presenting a mix of what we've come to expect from J.Press (traditional, preppy) with the modern eye of designers Ariel and Shimon Ovadia. Tailored for a much younger generation, everything is cut slimmer, with a flash of bright color here and there. Our favorite look was a young man sporting a fun orange jacket, layered over a classic slim-cut navy suit, the perfect combo of traditional and modern.
Newcomer Tanya Taylor's second collection was a mix of feminine dresses and separates to give a true "vacation" vibe. Our favorite look is this flirty bright-pink skirt paired with a cute cropped bustier.

Public School. |
Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne continue to impress us with collections that get stronger every season. The Public School guy is quintessentially cool. This look was our favorite. If Michael Shannon and Michael Pitt from HBO's Boardwalk Empire had a kid, and that boy was getting ready for a dinner party in Atlantic City, this would be him.
In a very strong Rodarte collection, this earring screamed, "I am a Khaleesi of the Dothraki!" I heard that call and asked the model, "Where are your dragons?" O.K., it's not an everyday earring, but it will definitely give your look an edge. Who do you think will wear it better: Kyle Editor or Kate Lanphear?
The wrist party continues. Alex Caputo (of Caputo & Co) partnered up with J.Crew to create my new favorite bracelet for my ever expanding "wrist situation."
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen showed their exquisite collection for the Row at the legendary Carlyle Breakfast Room. Watching a show in your private booth while supping on tea and crumpets is certainly a fabulous way to start your morning. Best part? No one has to sit in the third row.
