My top 10 hair styles

BACKSTAGE at every fashion week, hair teams will reference iconic hairstyles such as Marilyn Monroe's curls,Bettie Page's fringe or Ali MacGraw's centre-parted style in their impressive catwalk creations.

From Marie Antoinette's sky-high wigs to Audrey Hepburn's Breakfast at Tiffany's beehive, stylish women have been setting hair trends for centuries, and whilst today they may change their hair more regularly - think Rihanna, Victoria Beckham and Gwen Stefani - styles like Alexa Chung's tousled waves and Lady Gaga's hair bow still stand out.

EMMA WATSON – The actress cut her hair into a sweet pixie crop as soon as she finished filming the finalHarry Potter instalment, marking her move into her adult career.

Jessica Parker
CARRIE BRADSHAW – Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, as played by Sarah Jessica Parker, was almost as famous for her big blonde hair as for her quirky fashion choices.

MARIE ANTOINETTE – Associated with excess and indulgence, Marie Antoinette's impressive wigs were sometimes as much as three feet in height, and worn adorned with jewels, flowers and feathers. Here Kirsten Dunst represents the French Dauphine in Sofia Coppola's film Marie Antoinette

FAYE DUNAWAY – The Bonnie & Clyde star's swingy, shoulder-length bob made her the most stylish screen criminal we've seen.

ZOOEY DESCHANEL – The poster girl for kooky style, Zooey Deschanel's heavy, blunt fringe and wavy hair matches her fun-loving personality.

GRACE CODDINGTON – The USVogue creative director's mass of red hair is a distinctive and constant presence on Fashion Week front rows.

FREJA BEHA ERICHSEN – The model's chic shaggy hair, with its scruffy fringe, is the perfect match for her nonchalantly androgynous style.

BRIGITTE BARDOT - The French star is the queen of mussed-up blonde bombshell hair, usually paired with sultry smoky eyes.

CHARLOTTE FREE – Whether it's pastel, neon or spray-painted, Charlotte Free's hair is always pink.

VICTORIA BECKHAM – She's had many dramatic hair makeovers in her time, but Victoria Beckham's "Pob" is one of the most memorable.

KATE MOSS – The model's rock 'n' roll blonde waves and choppy fringe perfectly complement her laid-back style.

COURTNEY LOVE – The singer's "don't care" attitude is epitomised by her bleached blonde hair and perennially dark roots, usually worn in loose, messy waves.

BO DEREK – Cornrows gained mainstream popularity after Bo Derek wore them for her role in the film 10. The style had previously been more common amongst Africans and African-Americans.
