Your spring starter : Milan Spring collection 2013

Milan Spring 2013

We love Milan. The girls are faster, the music is harder, and the hemlines are shorter. The food is to die for, and decadence is paramount. Here is a list of some of our favorite accessories, shows, looks, and presentations.
Gucci.
This blue, over-embellished necklace from Gucci came in several colors and is the perfect necklace to turn a simple dress into "a look." These are not your mother's pearls, unless she is perhaps Sicilian and has a flair for the dramatic.

Gianvito Rossi.

This Gianvito Rossi gold bootie adopts the best elements of the 70s . . . without the platform.

Bottega Veneta.

Our favorite show soundtrack was at Bottega Veneta, which used the theme song to Taxi Driver and included Robert De Niro speaking throughout.

Jimmy Choo.

Three weeks into the spring/summer collections and open-toe boots have emerged as one of the biggest trends. Case in point, Jimmy Choo's edgy and sexy python peep-toe booties. Summer just got a whole lot naughtier.

Sergio Rossi.

Sergio Rossi takes the gladiator cuff to the next level. Gemstones, leather, and gold prove this bracelet is not for the faint of heart. Russell Crowe, can you handle it?

Fendi.
I am tempted to do "25 Obsessions: Fendi Edition," but in the name of editing, I present the woven peek-a-boo bag and the geometric 2jours tote. They are spectacular alter egos of Fendi's most iconic bags.

Peter Phillips.

Peter Phillips did the makeup at Fendi, and it was super cool. He wanted to use colors from the collection, but nothing in his bag of tricks matched exactly. So he used strips of neoprene and glued them under the models' eyes. To round out the look, he used black on the outer corners and mid-tone shades like green or blue in the center. Look at me, I'm a beauty editor!

Fratelli Rosetti.

I personally debuted my new Fratelli Rosetti shoes that I got from Bergdorf Goodman. Yes, they are purple and they put a bounce in my step.

Fendi.
The last look at Fendi was a short, glimmery bustier dress on Joan Smalls. As you can tell, we were very impressed by the Fendi show. The bags, as always, were the show stealers, but this dress was a clear winner. It doesn't hurt that I am like a magpie, fixated by shiny things. (Especially when they are on the most beautiful girl in the world.)

Tod,s.

Tod's kicks it couture with its new, made-to-order embellished driving loafers.

Prada.
Look #32 from Prada was another favorite look of ours this season. Fur for spring–why not? Mrs. Prada has earned the right to break all the rules. The show was described as sexy, something I did not get at first. But once the 60s-geisha reference settled in a little more, it became clear. A slip of the wrist, a subtle nod, and just a hint of lingerie; less is more.

Emporio Armani.

Want a sneak peek of a style that is sure to make its way into the Vanity Fair fashion closet this season? Take note of Emporio Armani's chic color-block heels.

Bally.
We loved the green piping on this evening Bally evening shoe and the geometric shape of the front. It says, "I may be at a black-tie event, but who's to say I can't go out clubbing later?"

Bulgari's Serpenti Minaudière.

The latest incarnation of Bulgari's Serpenti Minaudière debuts this season in bright white and gold, practically begging to be carried for a night out in Mykonos, or Capri or Ibiza. (Basically any holiday destination where the odds of running into Kate Moss are in your favor.)

Valextra.

Since the company's conception in 1937, Valextra has maintained true to its sophisticated, streamline aesthetic, designing accessories for men and women who can be described as stylish sophisticates. Having introduced a new chain design for the brand while continuing the tradition of working with only the finest leather, Valextra occupies the top spot on the accessories ladder with its Dada bag, and few other bags would be able to knock it down a rung.

Bottega veneta.
This Bottega Veneta fringe dress caught our attention for the way it played on the idea of a grass skirt. Bottega Veneta is luxury in its purest form, letting rich materials and luxurious craftsmanship speak for themselves. This dress could have looked gimmicky in the hands of a lesser house, but instead it just looked beautiful and expensive, just as one would expect from Mr. Maier.
